A Short History of Bethel Lutheran Church
It was the vision of those who first named our congregation, and it remains our purpose today, that: Bethel Lutheran Church offer a clear witness concerning God's presence and power at work in our world, and His faithful love and tender mercy as He continues to reveal them to our members and non-members alike, on a daily basis.
Bethel was founded in 1954 and the first service was held in East Elementary School in Grandville on May 2, 1954 and was attended by eighty-five people. Two years later ground was broken and a permanent sanctuary was built at our present location. A daughter congregation, (Holy Cross, Jenison) was born in 1965. In order to better serve the needs of the congregation and community, the sanctuary was renovated and additional classrooms, nurseries, a choir room and office space were added and dedicated in February of 1989.
Today Bethel's membership numbers
approximately 300 baptized members. Our Pastor, Rev. Glenn Kopper, is
assisted by a part-time staff which includes our: Organist Mrs. Jan
Shelner and Church Secretary Mrs. Barb Faasse.
